Fanuc 0i-MD CNC Retrofit on Lucas Boring Mill
First pic is the new Fanuc 0i-MD operator panel and it is attached to the operator elevator. It uses a Fanuc MPG remote hand pendant.

Second pic is the electrical panel containing the Fanuc Alpha Servo drives and Model A I/O for machine interface. The existing spindle drive is in rear cabinet

Third pic is a Lucas 5 axis boring mill with a Fanuc 0i-MD control retrofit. The X, Y, W axes use Heidnehain A Quad B scales for feedback. Z uses a incremental rotary encoder. The 5th axis is a contouring rotary table. It uses a precision absolute Heidenhain rotary encoder.

Second pic is the magnetics cabinet where the Model A I/O interface, relays, contactors and motor starters are housed.

Third pic is of the operator control station. Not shown is the MPG hand pendant. Stainless backer was custom milled with company logo.

Fourth pic is of the machine itself showing the Fanuc control retrofit. The existing DC spindle motor was kept and reconditioned and outfitted with the Bardac spindle drive.

The 1st picture is of a Giddings and Lewis PC 50 4 axis boring mill. It shows the Fanuc 0i-MD control retrofit, Fanuc spindle motor and drive and Alpha servo drives. The Manual Guide i programming system was purchased to give the operator ease of writing programs at the operator console.

The 2nd picture is of the drive cabinet where the spindle and servo drives are located.

The 3rd picture is of the interface/magnetics cabinet where the Model A I/O is located.

The 4th picture is of the operator control station, headstock with new spindle motor and z axis motor. The new spindle encoder is located in the side of the headstock.
